Description

The Tentacled Forest – 200 million years hence

Most slithersuckers are relatively conservative in size, feeding on small prey. But when mature, the Tarheel can attack and digest fairly large animals such as Squibbons and baby Megasquids. Starting life at a relatively small size, they feed rather like typical slithersuckers for years, until they attain a volume of many litres. At this time they are vulnerable and move very slowly, so they will find an opportune spot to complete their lifecycle. This large mass starts to secrete powerful acid, allowing it to excavate a pit in the ground, in which it conceals itself (fallen detritus and leaves eventually hide the creature further). From then on, they act much like a tar-pit, trapping and sucking in prey to be quickly digested.
